Nursing Poetry To Inspire You

The Next  -  By: Joe Gallagher

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I know. You are busy.

It's your first day.

The doctors want to know why it isn't done yet;

other nurses are waiting for you to catch up.

Your ears are filled with the sounds of the hurt and lost.

You can't seem to comfort everyone.

Here's some advice.

In the desk you'll find a couple extra pens.

A tide stick pen to clean your scrubs real quick.

A dollar for a quick snack from the vending machine.

A couple lolly pops to quiet the children when they really get going.

Here's some advice: One step at a time.

Take the time you feel you need on each patient and focus on that.

A touch on the arm and a soft smile can ease a lot of fear.

If the doctors are yelling speak softer.

They will quiet down to hear you.

Then they'll listen to sense.

Learn everything you can about everything. It will save someone's life someday.

Also learn from you're mistakes.

You're going to make a lot of them.

Remember no one said this was going to be easy.

I'm just going to tell you it was worth it.

ER Nurses Prayer

- - -

Dear God

Bless these hands and make in them an instrument of your will.

Give me the power to heal

what can be healed.

Strength when I'm

too exhausted to continue.

Comfort when healing isn't enough.

The wisdom to know the difference.

Amen
